Everyone remembers the London Olympics as one of the most successful sporting events that this Country has ever staged.   Few may also remember that in the run-up to the opening ceremony, there were concerns about the readiness of some of the venues, including the Olympic Park itself.

Some existing catering services supplying food to construction workers, Security Staff, and Military personnel were suspended due to certain unforeseen operational reasons.

The project was already looking at construction overruns, and losing existing catering facilities was going to make matters worse.  It was clear that for teams to go off-site at mealtimes would only add to the existing construction overrun problems and reduce productivity.

Russell Griggs was contacted by Baxter Storey with a massive cry for help.

‘Feed the troops’

Following a quickly convened meeting in central London, On-Site Catering Solutions, formerly Russell Leisure Catering Services, provided catering units to the site in the two months prior to the opening, during, and after the games.

At peak times, they provided over 8,500 meals per day to the hungry workforce and other personnel.

The Olympic Park opened on time; the London Olympic Games were heralded as a great success and most people never even knew of the huge contribution that On-Site Catering Solutions made to the overall success of the event.

The unsung heroes continue to assist with other Major Infrastructure construction projects.
